The Chilean town that serves as the main starting point for treks in Torres del Paine National Park is Puerto Natales.
Puerto Natales is the capital of Última Esperanza Province in Chile’s Magallanes Region. Its position makes it the practical gateway to Torres del Paine: trekkers commonly stay there, buy supplies, arrange transport and continue by bus or vehicle to the park’s entrances.
The town is connected to the park by routes including Route 9 and the Y-290 road. From Puerto Natales, visitors can reach access points such as Laguna Amarga and Serrano. The city also supports excursions to nearby attractions including Milodón Cave and the fjords of Última Esperanza Sound.
Punta Arenas is the region’s larger transport hub and often the arrival point for travellers flying into southern Chile, but it is farther from the park. El Calafate, across the border in Argentina, is another international access point. Puerto Williams is much farther south on Navarino Island and is not the normal base for Torres del Paine treks.
