Which character replaces Edna Braithwaite as Cora's lady's maid?

Phyllis Baxter replaces Edna Braithwaite as Cora’s lady’s maid.

Cora hires Edna after Sarah O’Brien resigns, but Edna’s time in service ends badly. Following her dismissal, Thomas Barrow recommends Phyllis Baxter for the vacant position. Cora is pleased with Baxter’s work, making her the next lady’s maid to the Countess of Grantham.

Baxter’s appointment introduces a more complicated servant storyline. Barrow knows that Baxter previously stole jewellery from an employer and uses that knowledge to pressure her into spying on the household. Baxter is uncomfortable with the arrangement, and her past gradually comes to light through conversations with Barrow, Joseph Molesley and Cora.

Unlike Edna, Baxter ultimately remains at Downton because Cora forgives her after learning the full circumstances. Baxter had been manipulated by a man who pretended to love her and then abandoned her to take the blame. The character is played by Raquel Cassidy and remains connected to the household through later series and films.
