Which character marries Charlotte Lucas?

The story behind the answer

Which character marries Charlotte Lucas? Mr. Collins marries Charlotte Lucas in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

Mr. William Collins first directs his attentions toward Elizabeth Bennet, but she firmly rejects his proposal. He then quickly proposes to Charlotte, Elizabeth’s close friend, who accepts because she values the security and social position marriage can provide.

Charlotte’s decision is practical rather than romantic. At 27, she fears becoming a spinster and understands that Mr. Collins’s income and position make him a tolerable match, despite his obsequious personality and absurd self-importance. Their marriage also gives her a stable household away from her parents.

After the wedding, Charlotte and Mr. Collins live at Hunsford Parsonage in Kent, close to Lady Catherine de Bourgh’s estate, Rosings Park. Elizabeth later visits Charlotte there and observes how carefully Charlotte manages her husband and domestic life. Mr. Collins is sometimes confused with other male characters, but neither Mr. Wickham, Mr. Hurst, nor Colonel Fitzwilliam marries Charlotte.
