Which character is the protagonist of Nintendo’s Xenoblade Chronicles?

The story behind the answer

Shulk is the protagonist of Nintendo’s Xenoblade Chronicles.

Monolith Soft developed Xenoblade Chronicles, which Nintendo published for Wii in 2010 in Japan and in 2011 in other regions. Shulk is a young scientist who studies the Monado, a mysterious sword capable of harming the mechanical beings known as the Mechon. His visions and connection to the weapon drive much of the story.

The game takes place on the bodies of two enormous beings, the Bionis and the Mechonis. This setting supports its expansive exploration system, in which players travel across large environments rather than through conventional separate world maps.

Shulk is also playable in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and several other crossover appearances. Rex, the lead character of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, is a common mix-up because both games belong to the same Nintendo-published role-playing series.
