Which character is the central diagnostician in House M.D.?
Answer
Gregory House
Answer
Gregory House
Gregory House is the central diagnostician in House M.D.
House leads the Diagnostic Medicine department at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. He is portrayed as exceptionally skilled at identifying rare or hidden diseases, but his abrasive personality, dependence on pain medication, and disregard for ordinary rules create constant conflict with patients, colleagues, and administrators.
The character was created by David Shore and played by Hugh Laurie. House's surname and investigative approach connect him to Sherlock Holmes: both are analytical figures who solve difficult cases by noticing details others overlook. The series also gives House a musical interest, a damaged leg that causes chronic pain, and a cane that becomes part of his visual identity.
House is sometimes confused with the actors or supporting doctors who share his department. James Wilson is his oncologist friend, Eric Foreman is a neurologist, and Robert Chase is a surgeon. None of those characters is the title character or the department's lead diagnostician. Gregory House remains the central figure throughout the series.
