Mickey Mouse plays Bob Cratchit in the 1983 animated film Mickey’s Christmas Carol.
The film adapts Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol and casts familiar Disney characters in the story’s roles. Scrooge McDuck plays Ebenezer Scrooge, while Mickey portrays Scrooge’s underpaid and kind-hearted clerk, Bob Cratchit. His family includes Mrs. Cratchit and Tiny Tim, also represented by Disney characters.
Mickey’s Christmas Carol was notable as Mickey Mouse’s first theatrical film appearance in 30 years. It was directed by Burny Mattinson and helped begin a renewed period of Disney theatrical animation during the 1980s.
The title can cause confusion because Mickey is the lead Disney character in the cast, but he is not Scrooge. Scrooge McDuck, whose name is based on the Dickens character, receives the central miser role.
