Which chapter of Genesis says the Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat?

The story behind the answer

Genesis 8 says that Noah's Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 places the ark on the mountains of Ararat after the floodwaters receded. The wording refers to a mountainous region rather than naming one precise summit. This is why the biblical text does not itself identify Mount Ararat in modern Turkey as the exact landing point.

Later traditions, searches, and popular accounts often connect the story with the individual mountain now called Mount Ararat. That association is influential, but it goes beyond the wording of Genesis, which uses the plural “mountains.”

The chapter continues with Noah testing the waters using a raven and doves, leaving the ark only after receiving the divine command. Its sequence links the resting place with the gradual drying of the earth, rather than presenting the ark as immediately abandoned after landing.
