Which chain introduced the Impossible Whopper?

Burger King introduced the Impossible Whopper. The sandwich pairs Burger King’s signature Whopper format with a plant-based patty made by Impossible Foods.

Burger King began testing it in April 2019 at 59 restaurants in and around St. Louis, Missouri. The trial attracted substantial attention, and the company expanded testing to additional cities before making the sandwich available nationwide in the United States in August 2019.

A common mix-up is confusing the restaurant chain with the patty maker: Impossible Foods supplied the patty, but Burger King created and sold the Impossible Whopper. Beyond Meat was another major plant-based competitor, but it was not the company behind this sandwich.

The Impossible Whopper generally used the same bun and toppings as a regular Whopper, including tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, onions, ketchup, and mayonnaise. Customers concerned about cross-contact with meat could request separate preparation.
