A doll is the ceremonial object traditionally presented as the quinceañera’s “last doll.” The symbol represents leaving behind childhood as the celebrant enters a new stage of life.
In some versions of the ceremony, a parent or other relative gives the doll to the quinceañera. The object may be dressed to match the celebrant’s gown or the event’s theme. Families interpret and perform the custom differently.
The last doll is one of several symbolic traditions associated with the celebration. Others can include a changing of shoes, a tiara, a bouquet, or candles. None of these customs is mandatory at every quinceañera.
