Which CEO was convicted in the 2005 Tyco corporate fraud case?
Answer
Dennis Kozlowski
Answer
Dennis Kozlowski
Dennis Kozlowski was convicted in the 2005 Tyco corporate fraud case.
Kozlowski served as Tyco International’s chief executive from 1992 until 2002. Prosecutors accused him and chief financial officer Mark Swartz of taking hundreds of millions of dollars from the company through unauthorized compensation, loans, and benefits. The case became one of the most prominent executive-compensation scandals of the early 2000s.
A first trial ended in a mistrial in 2004 after a juror was seen making an apparently favorable gesture toward the defendants. At the retrial, Kozlowski and Swartz were convicted in 2005. Each received prison sentences of up to 25 years, although Kozlowski was later released on parole. The case is often confused with Enron and WorldCom because all three scandals involved senior executives, but Tyco centered heavily on undisclosed personal benefits and misuse of corporate funds.
