Which car won the first Formula One World Championship race, the 1950 British Grand Prix?

The story behind the answer

The Alfa Romeo 158 won the first Formula One World Championship race, the 1950 British Grand Prix.

Nino Farina drove the winning Alfa Romeo 158 at Silverstone on 13 May 1950. The race marked the beginning of the modern Formula One World Championship, although Grand Prix racing itself had existed for decades before the championship was created.

Farina led an Alfa Romeo sweep of the podium, with Luigi Fagioli finishing second and Reg Parnell third. The dominant Alfa Romeo team used the 158, nicknamed the Alfetta, with its highly developed supercharged straight-eight engine.

The first championship season contained seven official rounds. Farina ultimately won the drivers’ title, while Alfa Romeo won every championship race that season. The 1950 event is sometimes confused with the first Grand Prix ever held, but it was specifically the first race in the newly organized world championship.
