Which car manufacturer's logo features a prancing horse?

Ferrari is the car manufacturer whose famous logo features a prancing horse. The emblem usually shows a black horse on a yellow background, with versions appearing on a shield or a rectangular badge.

The design originated with Francesco Baracca, an Italian World War I flying ace who displayed a black horse on his aircraft. After Baracca’s death, his mother reportedly suggested that Enzo Ferrari adopt the horse as a good-luck symbol. Ferrari’s racing team first used it in 1932, while the rectangular badge appeared on Ferrari road cars from 1947.

The yellow background has a local connection: it represents Modena, Enzo Ferrari’s hometown. The shield version commonly includes the Italian tricolour and the initials “SF,” meaning Scuderia Ferrari.

Porsche can cause confusion because its crest also includes a horse, derived from Stuttgart’s coat of arms. Ferrari’s standalone prancing horse, however, is the emblem most directly identified with the Italian sports-car maker.
