Which Cambridge university did C.S. Lewis join in 1954 as its first Professor of Medieval and Renaissance Literature?

The story behind the answer

C.S. Lewis joined the University of Cambridge in 1954 as its first Professor of Medieval and Renaissance Literature.

Before Cambridge, Lewis had spent most of his academic career at Oxford's Magdalen College. Cambridge created the new professorship for him, recognizing his expertise in English literature from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance.

Lewis became a fellow of Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he continued teaching and writing. The college name is spelled Magdalene, unlike Magdalen College at Oxford, the institution where he had taught since 1925.

His Cambridge appointment did not end his public work as a Christian writer. During this period he continued publishing fiction, literary criticism, and theological works, while remaining an influential speaker and essayist.
