Banksy infiltrated Disneyland with a life-size figure of a Guantanamo Bay prisoner in 2006.
The stunt placed an inflatable, orange-clad figure beside the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. The image referred to prisoners held at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp, creating a stark political contrast with the theme park’s family-friendly surroundings.
The figure was installed by Banksy and a collaborator during a visit to the park. It remained in view for several hours before being removed. The action demonstrated how Banksy could turn a highly controlled public environment into a temporary gallery for protest art.
This incident is distinct from Barely Legal, Banksy’s formal Los Angeles exhibition that same year. Barely Legal took place in a warehouse, while the Guantanamo figure was an unauthorized intervention inside Disneyland.
