Which cabinet position did Churchill hold in 1910?

In 1910, Winston Churchill became Britain’s Home Secretary.

Churchill was appointed to the post in February 1910 in H. H. Asquith’s Liberal government. The Home Secretary oversaw domestic responsibilities including the police, prisons and parts of the justice system, making this a major change from Churchill’s earlier junior ministerial roles. He remained in the office until October 1911.

During his tenure, Churchill introduced or supported prison reforms, including more humane treatment for political prisoners, educational facilities and looser rules on solitary confinement. He also became involved in the controversial Siege of Sidney Street in January 1911, when armed burglars were surrounded in London’s East End. His presence at the scene drew criticism, although he did not direct the police operation.

The common mix-up is with First Lord of the Admiralty, a post Churchill held later, from 1911 to 1915 and again during the First World War. He was not Prime Minister in 1910.
