Which Byzantine building in Ravenna is a small cruciform mausoleum associated with Galla Placidia?

The story behind the answer

The Mausoleum of Galla Placidia in Ravenna is a small cruciform building associated with the imperial princess Galla Placidia.

Constructed in the fifth century, the building has a compact cross-shaped plan and a relatively plain exterior of brick. Its interior is famous for richly colored mosaics, including a deep blue ceiling scattered with golden stars and a central cross.

Despite its traditional name, modern scholarship does not establish with certainty that Galla Placidia was buried there. The building may have served as a family chapel or memorial structure connected with the imperial court.

It is not the same monument as Ravenna’s Arian Baptistery, whose octagonal interior contains a baptismal mosaic. The mausoleum’s cruciform plan and starry vault make it one of the clearest surviving examples of late antique Ravenna’s architectural and decorative style.
