Which building, now called Independence Hall, hosted the Constitutional Convention and the Declaration debate?

The story behind the answer

The building now called Independence Hall was originally the Pennsylvania State House.

The Pennsylvania legislature commissioned the building in the 1730s, and it was completed in 1753. It became the meeting place of Pennsylvania’s colonial government before serving national revolutionary purposes.

The Second Continental Congress met there while debating and adopting the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The Constitutional Convention also met in the building from May to September 1787 and drafted the United States Constitution.

The building acquired the name Independence Hall during the nineteenth century, after its association with independence became a major part of the national story. The Assembly Room contains the chair George Washington used while presiding over the Constitutional Convention.
