Which building hosted the First Continental Congress, a key gathering remembered during America250?

The story behind the answer

Carpenters' Hall hosted the First Continental Congress, a key gathering remembered during America250.

The Congress met there in Philadelphia from September 5 to October 26, 1774. Fifty-six delegates represented twelve of the thirteen colonies; Georgia did not participate in that first meeting.

The delegates gathered in response to Britain’s Intolerable Acts, imposed after the Boston Tea Party. They debated colonial rights, adopted the Continental Association to organize a boycott of British goods, and petitioned King George III.

Carpenters’ Hall is often confused with Independence Hall. The First Continental Congress met at Carpenters’ Hall, while the Second Continental Congress later met at the building now called Independence Hall and adopted the Declaration of Independence there in 1776.
