Which building hosted the First Continental Congress, a gathering remembered in America's 250th-anniversary history?

The story behind the answer

Carpenters' Hall hosted the First Continental Congress, a gathering remembered in America's 250th-anniversary history.

The Congress met in Philadelphia from September 5 to October 26, 1774. Delegates from 12 of the 13 American colonies attended; Georgia did not send representatives. The meeting was held at Carpenters' Hall, the meeting place of the Carpenters' Company of the City and County of Philadelphia.

The delegates gathered in response to Britain's punitive Intolerable Acts and the blockade of Boston Harbor after the Boston Tea Party. They adopted the Continental Association, which organized a boycott of British goods, and sent a petition to King George III.

Carpenters' Hall is sometimes confused with Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was adopted and the U.S. Constitution was later debated and signed. The Second Continental Congress also met in Philadelphia, beginning in May 1775.
