The BTS member who released the solo mixtape “Agust D” is Suga.
Suga, whose birth name is Min Yoon-gi, released Agust D on August 15, 2016, under the rap alias Agust D. The name reverses “Suga” and combines it with “DT,” referring to his hometown, Daegu Town. The project was initially released for free through SoundCloud and download links rather than as a conventional commercial album.
The mixtape gave Suga room to explore subjects he generally approached differently within BTS, including ambition, identity, mental health, and the pressures of fame. He wrote, produced, and performed the project, emphasizing a harder-edged hip-hop style. Its title track, “Agust D,” arrived with a music video, followed by “Give It to Me.”
Listeners sometimes confuse Agust D with D-2, the second mixtape released by the same alter ego in 2020. Agust D is the first project; D-2 followed on May 22, 2020, with “Daechwita” as its lead single.
