Which bronze sculpture by Arturo Di Modica, installed near Wall Street in 1989, depicts a charging bull?

The story behind the answer

Charging Bull is the bronze sculpture by Arturo Di Modica that was installed near Wall Street in 1989.

Di Modica created the sculpture without a commission and placed it outside the New York Stock Exchange in December 1989 as a symbol of optimism after the 1987 stock-market crash. The 3.4-ton bronze measures about 11 feet (3.4 meters) high and 16 feet (4.9 meters) long.

New York City officials removed it soon afterward, but public support led to its relocation to Bowling Green, at the southern end of Broadway, where it became a popular landmark. The sculpture’s powerful forward motion and lowered horns helped give it an association with financial strength and rising markets.

It is often called the “Wall Street Bull,” but that is an informal nickname rather than the sculpture’s official title. It is also distinct from Fearless Girl, which was installed nearby in 2017.
