The British reggae band that released the 1988 album “Distant Thunder” was Aswad.
Distant Thunder was a studio album by Aswad, released through Mango Records on 28 March 1988. By this point, the London-based group had developed from its earlier roots-reggae sound into a polished style that incorporated pop, soul and dance-oriented production while retaining reggae foundations. The album was produced by Aswad alongside Chris Porter and Ron Fair.
The record became one of Aswad’s strongest commercial releases. It reached No. 10 on the UK Albums Chart and was later certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry. Its recording sessions took place at several London studios, including the Fallout Shelter, The Point, Eastcote, Sarm West and Sarm East. “Distant Thunder” is sometimes confused with albums by Steel Pulse or Musical Youth because all three were prominent British reggae acts, but the title belongs to Aswad’s 1988 catalogue.
