Which British monarch presented Philadelphia with the Bicentennial Bell in 1976?

The story behind the answer

Queen Elizabeth II presented Philadelphia with the Bicentennial Bell in 1976.

During her 1976 state visit to the United States, Queen Elizabeth II presented the bell to Philadelphia on July 6. The gift came from the British people and commemorated the long historical relationship between Britain and the United States.

The Bicentennial Bell was made as a replica of the Liberty Bell. It was cast at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry, the same London foundry associated with the original Liberty Bell. Its inscription expressed the British gift to the people of the United States and included the phrase “Let Freedom Ring.”

Queen Elizabeth II was monarch from 1952 until her death in 2022. She was not the mother of King Charles III’s successor but was Charles’s mother; Charles became king after her death. That makes her the correct monarch for the 1976 presentation.
