Which British author is known for the 'Discworld' series?

The story behind the answer

Terry Pratchett is the British author known for the “Discworld” series. The comic-fantasy sequence began with The Colour of Magic in 1983 and eventually grew to 41 novels, published through 2015.

Discworld is set on a flat, planet-sized world carried through space by four giant elephants standing on the shell of the enormous turtle Great A’Tuin. Beneath its absurd cosmology, the series satirizes politics, religion, bureaucracy, class, war, technology, journalism, and popular fantasy conventions.

Pratchett’s recurring settings and characters include the city of Ankh-Morpork, the City Watch, the witches of Lancre, and Death, who speaks in capital letters. The novels can be read broadly in publication order, but many also form connected sub-series centered on particular characters or institutions.

Neil Gaiman is a frequent source of confusion because he co-wrote Good Omens with Pratchett in 1990, but he did not create Discworld. Douglas Adams also wrote comic speculative fiction, yet his major series was The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
