Which British admiral signed the Japanese Instrument of Surrender for the United Kingdom?

The story behind the answer

Admiral Sir Bruce Fraser signed the Japanese Instrument of Surrender for the United Kingdom.

Fraser signed aboard USS Missouri during the September 2, 1945 ceremony in Tokyo Bay. He represented the United Kingdom after Douglas MacArthur signed for the Allied powers and Chester Nimitz signed for the United States.

The British representative is sometimes confused with other senior Royal Navy admirals of World War II, including Andrew Cunningham, John Tovey, and James Somerville. Fraser's role was specific to the surrender ceremony, where he signed on behalf of Britain at about 9:14 a.m. Tokyo time.

Fraser had commanded the British Pacific Fleet in the final period of the war. His signature appeared among those of the nine Allied national representatives, alongside officials from China, the Soviet Union, Australia, Canada, France, the Netherlands, and New Zealand.
