Which bridge is the traditional focal point of Sydney's New Year's Eve fireworks?
Answer
Sydney Harbour Bridge
Answer
Sydney Harbour Bridge
Sydney Harbour Bridge is the traditional focal point of Sydney's New Year's Eve fireworks.
The bridge spans Sydney Harbour between the central business district and the North Shore. Its steel arch and location beside the Sydney Opera House make it one of the most recognizable settings for a midnight celebration. Fireworks are launched from the bridge, barges, and other locations around the harbour, creating a display visible from many waterfront vantage points.
Sydney is among the first major cities to welcome the new year because Australia lies west of the International Date Line and uses time zones ahead of much of the world. The celebration therefore receives international television coverage as one of the earliest major urban fireworks events of December 31.
The Sydney Opera House is another prominent landmark in images of the event, but the bridge is the traditional structural centre of the fireworks presentation. The display includes an earlier family fireworks show as well as the midnight event.
