Which bridge is a centerpiece of Sydney's New Year's Eve fireworks over the harbor?

The story behind the answer

Sydney Harbour Bridge is a centerpiece of Sydney's New Year's Eve fireworks over the harbor.

The steel through arch bridge opened in 1932 and connects Sydney's central business district with the North Shore. Its distinctive arch and broad deck make it a highly visible landmark from vantage points around Sydney Harbour, including the Opera House forecourt and surrounding waterfront parks.

Sydney's major New Year's Eve program usually includes an earlier family fireworks display and a midnight display. Pyrotechnics are launched from the bridge, nearby buildings, and barges on the harbor. Because Australia reaches midnight before many densely populated parts of the world, the broadcast has become an internationally recognized New Year's spectacle.

The bridge is sometimes informally called “the Coathanger” because of its shape. The Opera House is also central to views of the celebration, but it is the bridge's arch that is especially associated with fireworks launched from the structure.
