The Pont de Normandie is the cable-stayed bridge that opened across the Seine estuary in Normandy in 1995.
It connects Le Havre and Honfleur, carrying road traffic over the broad estuary where the Seine reaches the English Channel. The bridge is 2,143 metres long and has a 856-metre central span, which made it the world’s longest cable-stayed span when it opened.
Its two concrete towers rise about 214 metres above the water, while the stay cables spread outward in a distinctive fan arrangement. The design was developed by engineer Michel Virlogeux and architect François Seigneur.
The Pont de Normandie is often confused with the nearby Pont de Tancarville, an earlier suspension bridge opened in 1959. The two crossings serve different parts of the Seine estuary and have different structural systems.
