Which bridge in Lisbon, opened in 1966, was originally named after dictator António de Oliveira Salazar?

The story behind the answer

The 25 de Abril Bridge in Lisbon was opened in 1966 under the name Ponte Salazar, honoring António de Oliveira Salazar.

The suspension bridge crosses the Tagus River and connects Lisbon with the municipality of Almada. After the Carnation Revolution ended Portugal’s Estado Novo dictatorship in 1974, it was renamed to commemorate 25 April, the date of the revolution.

The bridge was built by the American Bridge Company and has a main span of 1,013 metres. Its appearance is often compared with San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, although the two structures were designed for different sites and traffic systems.

The bridge is sometimes confused with Lisbon’s Vasco da Gama Bridge, which opened in 1998 and crosses the Tagus farther east. The 25 de Abril Bridge carries road traffic on its upper deck and trains on a lower deck.
