Which bridge in Istanbul crosses the Bosphorus and was the first fixed link between Europe and Asia in the city?

The story behind the answer

Istanbul’s 15 July Martyrs Bridge was the city’s first fixed bridge across the Bosphorus linking Europe and Asia.

The suspension bridge opened in 1973, on the 50th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. It connects Istanbul’s Ortaköy district on the European side with Beylerbeyi on the Asian side.

It was originally called the Bosphorus Bridge and was renamed in 2016 to commemorate people killed resisting the attempted coup in Turkey that year. The bridge remains one of Istanbul’s most recognizable landmarks and carries road traffic across the strait.

Istanbul now has several Bosphorus bridges. Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge opened in 1988, and Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge opened in 2016, so the first-crossing clue specifically identifies the 1973 structure.
