Which bridge in Hong Kong carries road and rail traffic between Tsing Yi and Ma Wan?

The story behind the answer

Tsing Ma Bridge is the Hong Kong bridge carrying road and rail traffic between Tsing Yi and Ma Wan.

Opened in 1997, it forms part of the Lantau Link, the transport route connecting Hong Kong’s urban area with Lantau Island and Hong Kong International Airport. The name combines the Chinese names of the two islands at its ends: Tsing Yi and Ma Wan.

The bridge has a double-deck structure. The upper deck carries road traffic, while the lower deck carries railway tracks and can also be used by road vehicles during severe weather or emergencies.

Its main span is 1,377 metres, making it one of the world’s notable suspension bridges. Tsing Ma Bridge is often mentioned alongside Kap Shui Mun Bridge, another Lantau Link structure, but they are separate bridges serving different sections of the route.
