Which bridge in Brasília, completed in 2002, crosses Lake Paranoá and is named after former president Juscelino Kubitschek?

The story behind the answer

The Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge is the Brasília bridge completed in 2002 that crosses Lake Paranoá and is named after former president Juscelino Kubitschek.

Often called the JK Bridge, it was designed by architect Alexandre Chan and structural engineer Mário Vila Verde. Three large steel arches rise above the lake and support the roadway with diagonal cables.

The bridge carries automobile traffic between Brasília’s central area and the Lago Sul and São Sebastião districts. Its three arches are intended to evoke the movement of a stone skipping across water.

Juscelino Kubitschek founded Brasília as Brazil’s new capital in 1960. The bridge’s official name honours him, while the design gives the modernist capital another prominent architectural landmark.
