Oscar De La Hoya is the boxer nicknamed “The Golden Boy.”

The nickname became closely associated with De La Hoya after he won a lightweight gold medal for the United States at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. His polished style, good looks, bilingual appeal and early success made him one of boxing’s biggest crossover stars.

De La Hoya turned professional in 1992 and eventually won 11 world titles across six weight classes.
