Which book began C.S. Lewis’s seven-volume Chronicles of Narnia?

The story behind the answer

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe began C.S. Lewis’s seven-volume Chronicles of Narnia.

Published in 1950, the novel introduces the magical land of Narnia through a wardrobe discovered by four children: Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie. Lucy is the first of the siblings to enter Narnia.

The story features Aslan, the White Witch, and the conflict between winter and renewal. Although it was the first Narnia book published, some modern editions arrange the series in fictional chronological order, placing The Magician’s Nephew first.

That publication-order difference causes a common mix-up. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe remains the original entry point and the book that established the series for its first readers.
