Which bird tried to rescue Sita from Ravana?
Answer
Jatayu
Answer
Jatayu
Jatayu was the bird who tried to rescue Sita from Ravana.
Jatayu is described in the Ramayana as a powerful vulture and the king of vultures. While Ravana was carrying Sita away after abducting her, the elderly bird recognized the danger and attacked the rakshasa king. Jatayu fought to stop the abduction but was eventually defeated, and Ravana severed his wings.
Rama and Lakshmana later found Jatayu gravely wounded while searching for Sita. Before dying, he told Rama that Ravana had taken Sita southward toward Lanka. Rama performed Jatayu’s funeral rites, treating the loyal bird as a beloved ally and honoring his sacrifice.
Jatayu is often confused with Sampati, his elder brother. Sampati later helps Rama’s search party by identifying Lanka’s direction, but he does not fight Ravana during Sita’s abduction. Garuda is another related figure: he is the divine eagle traditionally associated with Vishnu, whereas Jatayu is the Ramayana’s vulture hero.
