Which billionaire owns The Washington Post newspaper?

The story behind the answer

Jeff Bezos owns The Washington Post through Nash Holdings, the private investment company that bought the newspaper in 2013.

Bezos, best known as Amazon's founder, purchased the Post and related assets from the Graham family for about $250 million. The transaction was announced in August 2013 and completed that October. It was a personal acquisition, not an Amazon purchase, so the newspaper became separate from Amazon's corporate operations.

The Post has a much longer history: Stilson Hutchins founded it in 1877, and Eugene Meyer bought it out of bankruptcy in 1933. Under the Graham family, it became known for major reporting, including its publication of the Pentagon Papers and coverage of Watergate. Bezos's ownership is therefore often confused with Amazon ownership, but Amazon does not own the newspaper. Nash Holdings does, with Bezos as its owner. The paper continues to operate as a Washington-based newspaper independently of Amazon's retail and cloud businesses.
