Which billionaire owns the NFL team Carolina Panthers?
Answer
David Tepper
Answer
David Tepper
The billionaire who owns the NFL team Carolina Panthers is David Tepper.
Tepper, a Pittsburgh native, built his fortune in finance as the founder and president of Appaloosa Management, a hedge fund. Before becoming a principal NFL owner, he held a minority stake in the Pittsburgh Steelers, giving him familiarity with league operations and ownership.
In May 2018, Tepper completed his purchase of the Panthers from Jerry Richardson, the franchise’s founder and first owner. The deal was worth nearly $2.3 billion, a record NFL team purchase at the time. Tepper has controlled the Panthers since then and also owns Charlotte FC of Major League Soccer.
A common mix-up is confusing the Panthers with other billionaire-owned NFL teams: Stephen Ross owns the Miami Dolphins, Robert Kraft owns the New England Patriots, and Jerry Jones owns the Dallas Cowboys. Richardson remains important to the franchise’s history, but he is the former owner, not the current one.
