Renaissance was the Beyoncé album released in 2022 and named after a period of artistic rebirth.
Renaissance is Beyoncé’s seventh studio album and the first act of the planned three-part project known as the Renaissance trilogy. Columbia Records released it on July 29, 2022. The album draws heavily on dance, disco, house, funk, and Black queer club-music traditions.
Its lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé’s eighth solo Billboard Hot 100 number-one single. Other prominent tracks include “Cuff It,” “Alien Superstar,” and “Virgo’s Groove.” The album was widely noted for its continuous, dance-oriented sequencing.
The title is not a reference to the Renaissance period alone; Beyoncé used it to suggest renewal and creative movement. It is distinct from Lemonade, her 2016 album, and from Cowboy Carter, a later album released in 2024. Those titles belong to different stages of her discography.
