BBC One primarily broadcasts London’s New Year’s Eve fireworks.
The fireworks are carried in the BBC’s annual New Year’s Eve programming, traditionally shown on BBC One. The broadcast includes live coverage of the countdown, Big Ben’s midnight chimes, and the display over the River Thames and around the London Eye. Viewers may also encounter related clips or streams through BBC services, but BBC One is the main television channel associated with the event.
The BBC’s London-centered New Year coverage has roots in the millennium celebrations. From 2004, the broadcaster regularly presented a live London special known as New Year Live, later combining the fireworks with concert programming and celebrity hosts.
BBC Two is often associated with Jools’ Annual Hootenanny, another New Year tradition, which can cause confusion. ITV1 and Channel 4 also air their own holiday programming, but they are not the primary channel for the official London fireworks broadcast.
