Which bay is famous for the world's highest tidal range?

The story behind the answer

Which bay is famous for the world's highest tidal range? The Bay of Fundy.

The Bay of Fundy, between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in Canada, is famous for having the world's highest average tidal range, about 16 metres. It is an arm of the Gulf of Maine and opens into the Atlantic Ocean.

Its extreme tides result from the bay's funnel shape and tidal resonance. As the basin narrows and becomes shallower toward its head, incoming water is amplified, producing dramatic changes between high and low tide. The timing is semidiurnal: there are usually two high tides and two low tides each day.

The Bay of Fundy is not just a scenic coastline. Powerful tidal currents create tidal bores in several rivers, including the Petitcodiac, and enormous volumes of water move in and out during each cycle. Local tidal heights vary with the Moon, Sun and atmospheric conditions, so the maximum observed range is not identical at every location or on every day.
