Which battles began the American Revolutionary War remembered by America250?

The story behind the answer

The Battles of Lexington and Concord began the American Revolutionary War remembered by America250.

The fighting took place in Massachusetts on April 19, 1775. British regulars marched from Boston toward Concord to seize military supplies, but colonial militia mobilized after receiving warnings. The first clash occurred on Lexington Common, where British troops and local militiamen exchanged fire.

The British continued to Concord, where they found that many supplies had been moved. On the return march to Boston, colonial forces repeatedly attacked the column from concealed positions. The day’s fighting caused hundreds of casualties and drew thousands of New England militiamen into the conflict.

The battles are often called the opening military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. They came before the Declaration of Independence by more than a year. The later Battle of Bunker Hill, fought near Boston in June 1775, was a separate early battle.
