Which battle on April 19, 1775, began the American Revolutionary War remembered by America250?

The story behind the answer

The Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, began the American Revolutionary War.

British troops marched from Boston toward Concord to seize colonial military supplies. Patriot riders warned local militias, and fighting began at Lexington before spreading to Concord and the road back to Boston.

The opening encounter at Lexington was a brief skirmish, while the fighting at Concord’s Old North Bridge became a larger engagement. The British column eventually returned to Boston under sustained fire, suffering significant casualties. Colonial militia then helped begin the Siege of Boston.

Bunker Hill, fought two months later, was the first major battle of the siege, not the beginning of the war. Yorktown came in 1781 and effectively ended major fighting. The phrase “shot heard round the world” is associated with the opening clash at Lexington.
