Which battle in 1066 is commonly considered the end of the Viking Age?

The story behind the answer

The Battle of Stamford Bridge is commonly considered the end of the Viking Age. It was fought in Yorkshire on 25 September 1066 between the English army of King Harold Godwinson and a Norwegian invasion force led by Harald Hardrada.

Harold’s army made a rapid march north after defeating an earlier Viking victory at Fulford. The English defeated Hardrada, who was killed during the battle, and also killed Harold’s brother Tostig, who had supported the invasion.

The Viking Age did not end everywhere on one exact day, and Scandinavian activity continued afterward. Stamford Bridge is used as a conventional endpoint because it was the last major attempt by a Scandinavian king to conquer England.
