Which bassist played on Metallica’s Metallica, the album known as The Black Album?
Answer
Jason Newsted
Answer
Jason Newsted
Jason Newsted played bass on Metallica’s Metallica, the album known as The Black Album.
Newsted joined Metallica in 1986 after the death of founding bassist Cliff Burton. He remained the band’s bassist during the recording and release of the 1991 album, making The Black Album his first Metallica studio album to achieve worldwide mainstream success.
The album’s core lineup was James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Jason Newsted. Newsted contributed bass performance and backing vocals, while Hetfield handled lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Hammett played lead guitar, and Ulrich played drums.
Listeners sometimes name Robert Trujillo because he later became Metallica’s bassist, joining in 2003. Cliff Burton is also associated strongly with the band’s classic early period, but he died before the Black Album sessions. Newsted’s tenure covered the group’s breakthrough years and ended in 2001.
