Pantera’s album Vulgar Display of Power features the song “Walk.” Released in 1992, the record was the Texas band’s sixth studio album and one of the defining statements of 1990s groove metal.
“Walk” was built around a slow, heavily syncopated guitar riff by Dimebag Darrell, with vocals by Phil Anselmo, bass by Rex Brown, and drums by Vinnie Paul. The song’s lyrics were inspired by tension between the band and people who, in their view, had begun treating them differently after their success. Its blunt chorus turned the phrase “take a walk” into one of metal’s most recognizable confrontational hooks.
The album also contains “Mouth for War,” “A New Level,” “Fucking Hostile,” and “This Love.” A common mix-up is confusing the album with the song: “Walk” is the track, while Vulgar Display of Power is the Pantera album that contains it. The album was recorded in 1991 and later earned double-platinum certification in the United States.
