Motörhead’s 1980 album Ace of Spades includes the title song “Ace of Spades.”
Released on November 8, 1980, Ace of Spades was Motörhead’s fourth studio album. The title track became the band’s signature song, driven by Lemmy’s gravelly vocals, fast bass playing, Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor’s drumming, and “Fast” Eddie Clarke’s guitar work.
The album reached number four on the UK Albums Chart and helped establish Motörhead as a major force in British heavy music. Its rough, fast, loud approach influenced metal, punk, and later speed- and thrash-metal musicians.
Although Motörhead is often grouped with heavy metal, the band’s sound also drew strongly from rock and roll and punk. This is why the group has been described with labels including heavy metal, hard rock, and speed metal rather than fitting neatly into only one category.
