Answer
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark released “Pandora’s Box” on the 1991 album Sugar Tax.
Usually abbreviated OMD, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark is an English electronic band formed by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys. “Pandora’s Box” became one of the group’s notable songs from the early 1990s and draws its title from the ancient myth’s image of consequences being released from a container.
The song is also linked to the 1929 film Pandora’s Box. Its lyrics and imagery were inspired in part by Louise Brooks, who played Lulu in that film. This gives the track a cultural connection beyond the Greek myth: it combines classical symbolism with silent-film history and OMD’s electronic pop style.
Sugar Tax was OMD’s sixth studio album and followed a period when the band’s commercial profile had shifted. The song should not be confused with the similarly titled Aerosmith compilation Pandora’s Box, which is a different release by a different artist.
