Which band released the 1989 album 'When Dream and Day Unite'?

The story behind the answer

Dream Theater released the 1989 album When Dream and Day Unite.

It was the American band’s debut studio album, recorded while the group was still known as Majesty. The lineup included guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung, keyboardist Kevin Moore, drummer Mike Portnoy, and vocalist Charlie Dominici.

The album introduced the group’s progressive-metal approach, with technically demanding instrumental passages and elaborate arrangements. Songs include “A Fortune in Lies,” “The Ytse Jam,” and “Only a Matter of Time.” “The Ytse Jam” is a rearranged form of the band’s earlier instrumental “The Ytse Jam,” with the title derived from a reversal of “Majesty.”

Dream Theater later became much more widely known after Images and Words. Because of that breakthrough, When Dream and Day Unite is sometimes mistaken for the band’s first major commercial album, but it is specifically their debut.
