Which band released the 1986 album 'Epicus Doomicus Metallicus'?

The story behind the answer

Candlemass released the 1986 album Epicus Doomicus Metallicus.

The Swedish band's debut is considered a foundational release in epic doom metal. Its slow, heavy riffs, dramatic arrangements, and dark atmosphere expanded traditional doom's blues-based heaviness into a more grand and theatrical form.

The unusual title is pseudo-Latin, combining words that suggest “epic,” “doom,” and “metallic.” Bassist Leif Edling wrote much of the material, while vocalist Johan Längqvist performed on the original studio recording.

Listeners sometimes associate Candlemass primarily with vocalist Messiah Marcolin, who became strongly identified with the group on later releases. However, Längqvist sang on Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, making the debut distinct from the band's best-known later vocal era.
