Simple Plan performed the theme song for the animated series What’s New, Scooby-Doo?.
The Canadian pop-punk band recorded the opening theme for the series, which premiered in 2002. The song helped give the revival a contemporary sound while retaining the familiar idea of Mystery, Inc. chasing apparently supernatural mysteries. The show updated the character designs and settings for a new generation without abandoning the core group.
What’s New, Scooby-Doo? followed the 1998 series Scooby-Doo and introduced a more modern visual and musical presentation. It ran for three seasons from 2002 to 2006. Simple Plan’s involvement connected the program with the early-2000s pop-punk scene, when the band was known for songs such as “Welcome to My Life.”
The theme is sometimes attributed to another pop-punk group because several bands from that era appeared on animated-program soundtracks. Simple Plan, however, is specifically credited with performing this Scooby-Doo opening song.
